In 1958, Darphin helped revolutionize esthetic care by
opening one of the first beauty institutes in Paris for
complete body, hair and skin care solutions, custom-tailored
to specific, personal needs. While a few hair salons at that
time offered facials among their services, Pierre Darphin
launched an entirely new entity: a serious, luxurious
enclave dedicated to comprehensive, head-to-toe beauty.
Discreetly situated at Avenue Matignon (within Paris' elite
"gold triangle" bordered by Avenue Montaigne and the Champs
Elysée), Darphin's Institute catered to Europe's most
fashion-forward and socially prominent women. Son of
a renowned hairdresser in playground-to-the-wealthy Aix Les
Bains, Darphin was an experienced cosmetologist,
kinesitherapist, chemical and medical scholar. He believed
that a woman's skin is a mirror, reflecting her life.
Genetic predispositions, lifestyle practices, mental state,
chronological age, environmental exposures, beauty care
choices... all are projected clearly on the "screen" of a
woman's skin.
